Milano San Rocco is one of Italy's largest sewage treatment plants. 50% of Milan's sewage is treated here. When operating at full capacity, it clarifies the sewage from over one million people.
The starting situation
In 2001, Degrémont, part of the Suez Environnement Group, signed a contract for 100 million euros with the local authority. Integral parts of the contract were the planning, construction and operation of the sewage treatment plant.
The solution
As one of the world's biggest specialists in water treatment, Degrémont has maintained business relations with seepex for many years. And this was the reason we were chosen as partner to supply progressive cavity pumps for this plant. A total of 26 pumps of diverse size are meanwhile in operation to meet demanding conveyance and metering requirements.
seepex BN pumps also have to transport biological excess sludge to the thickener, convey thickened sludge to the sludge container, feed wet presses as well as convey and meter flocculants.
The benefit
Apart from supplying the pumps, seepex concluded a 5-year full service contract with Degrémont for these 26 aggregates in the summer of 2004. This package includes a 24 hour on-call service and a local stock of spare parts. seepex specialists inspect the pumps and check for wear and tear at half yearly intervals. By providing this preventive service, seepex guarantees that the pumps function longterm. The pumps have been in operation since the end of 2004 without any downtime - thanks to their high quality.
