Dosing of different food fillings using just a single pump



A well-known Austrian manufacturer of potato, dough, dumpling and strudel specialities produces ready made strudel filled with a variety of fillings. These fillings, which contain apples, damsons, vegetables, pasta or quark among other foodstuffs, must be dosed onto the wafer-thin strudel dough.

The starting situation


Until now the fillings were applied from above using traditional dosing cylinders, but it was not possible to achieve the required minimum size of the fruit or vegetable pieces with these. A further problem lay in filling the hopper which was positioned at a very high level. 

The solution


seepex was commissioned to find a solution for both of these problems. A suitable pump was quickly found in the BTCI range, a food pump with hopper, integrated bridge breaker and specially manufactured paddle shafts.

The special features of these pumps are:

  • Paddles can be adjusted by 360°. According to their position they ensure greater or lesser pressure and fill conveying screw situated below the bridge breaker, taking into consideration the required size of the fruit and vegetable pieces.
  • Stator with even wall thickness for a consistent sealing line, constant temperature pattern and increased dosing accuracy
  • Complete cleaning of the pump without dismantling using CIP flow cleaning

The benefits


From now on it will no longer be necessary to lift the fillings to a great height; rather they can be filled directly into the pump which is positioned on the ground. By adjusting the paddles the particle size of fruit and vegetable pieces can be set individually as required. The dosing accuracy of this system is below 4%, calculated by weighing the individual cut pieces of strudel. It is additionally possible with this pump to achieve diverse results with an extremely wide range of different conveying media.
