Queen Mary II and seepex pumps set standards on the seven seas

The Queen Mary II is one of the largest, fastest and most modern ocean liners ever built. With a height of 72 m, it is taller than the Statue of Liberty, and with a length of 345 m, longer than three jumbo jets. The electrical plant alone could generate power for a town with 200,000 inhabitants.
The starting situation
And it also sets standards in terms of environmental protection. The Queen Mary II satisfies the high standards that are placed on municipal sewerage plants for sewage sludge management. Up until now any waste and sludge has been collected in containers for disposal on land. On the Queen Mary II an elaborate plant treats waste and incinerates it on board in an environmentally friendly manner.
The solution
Several seepex pumps of range BTI for conveying dewatered sludge into the drier Several seepex pumps of different designs play an important role.seepex pumps of the BTI range are used to transport the sludge. The sludge with a solid content of approximately 20% is conveyed from the centrifuge to the drier. After a drying phase the dewatered sludge is incinerated together with other wastes. The combustion heat generated in this incineration process is then fed back into the ships energy cycle.
 
All pumps required for this waste treatment process have been installed together with additional units positioned on a common space-saving pump skid. This design permits the installation of several pumps in a small space. The skids consist of individual modules that are preinstalled and then connected up once on board.
The benefit
Since there is little room below the decks of a passenger ship, the modular design is particularly popular with the plant builders / installers. Instead of many individual units only a few plant parts need to be brought in for installation at close quarters. So, passengers can sail the seven seas with a clear conscience knowing they are on an environmentally friendly and energy efficient vessel that works in perfect harmony with its surroudings.
