Drilling Fluids provide many functions in the activities related to drilling wells. They supply hydraulic pressure to the drill motor, lubricate the drill bit and rotating parts, act as a coolant, and lift the rock cuttings back to the surface. In addition to this they also pressurize the well and prevent blow outs.
The main ingredients of a Drilling Fluid consist of bentonite, clays, polymers, water and hydrocarbons.
