Down time due to blockages are a thing of the past.

Foreign materials in sewage often lead to blockages in sewage treatment plants and thus to plant sections coming to a standstill. Precisely these blockages were the reason why the technicians of a sewage treatment plant in Westphalia turned to the pump specialists from seepex.
The population equivalent (PE) of the sewage treatment plant, which began operating in 1998, is 36,000 (1 PE corresponds to 60g O2)

The starting situation
Previously, two centrifugal pumps were used for digested sludge with a dry matter content of 3 % and a temperature of 35-40 °C.
Due to the increasing amounts of foreign materials, blockages inside the centrifugal pumps were frequent causing the pumps to come to a standstill. To clean the pumps, they had to be disassembled every 14 days which meant that the plant had to be shut down for a longer period of time each time.

The solution
Compared to the centrifugal pumps, progressive cavity pumps less prone to clogging. seepex recognised the problem years ago and improved the design of its pumps correspondingly.
With the "Smart Stator Technology" (SST), this design was further optimised. It enables quick and simple stator changing and the removal of blockages and debris without dismantling the pipelines. Progressive cavity pumps equipped with this technology no longer need to be removed from the pumping process for maintenance. This means that the tricky and time-consuming task of dismantling and reassembling pipelines and other system elements is no longer necessary. Maintenance times have thus been reduced to a previously unknown minimum. Moreover, SST can also be used as a retensioning device for increasing the service life of the pumping elements.
seepex installed a pump of the BN range which is equipped with this new technology. The conveying capacity is 60 m3/h at a speed of 350 rpm and a pressure of 2 bar. The pump works without any problems. Opening or maintenance of the pump has not been necessary up to now. The technicians of the sewage treatment plant are extremely satisfied with the results achieved.

The benefit
The unique design of the seepex progressive cavity pumps protects them as far as possible against blockages. Nevertheless, should a blockage occur, a seepex pump equipped with SST can be freed from foreign materials in just a few steps. Downtimes and operating costs are reduced, productivity increased in the long term.
