New Pump Sizes for the Biogas Industry

SEEPEX Expands BTEX and BN Ranges for Higher Throughput and More Efficient Fermentation

The biogas sector faces the challenge of operating plants as efficiently as possible while meeting increasing throughput demands. Efficient substrate processing is becoming ever more important, especially when feedstock availability fluctuates or during short-term campaign operations. To optimally support plant operators and builders, SEEPEX is now expanding its BTEX and BN pump ranges with new sizes.

Higher Throughput: Flow Rates up to 160 m³/h (700 US gpm)

The new pump sizes enable significantly higher flow rates. The BTEX series now covers capacities from 20 to 160 cubic meters per hour (90-700 US gpm) at pressures up to 8 bar (120 psi). Now, SEEPEX solutions provide stable and high-performance pumping even in larger plants or during seasonal peaks.

Efficient Premixing Reduces Retention Time in the Digester

A key feature of the BTEX pumps is optimized premixing in the hopper: solid substrates such as silage or straw are homogenized with liquid substrates like manure before pumping.

Benefits for Fermentation:

  • Higher and more consistent biogas yield
  • Lower energy demand for internal mixing
  • Significantly shorter retention time in the digester
  • Faster and more stable microbial activity

Improved homogenization ensures that the biological process starts earlier and at a higher level—a decisive factor for biogas yield. The broader range of pump sizes makes it easier to match pumps to specific substrates, digester sizes, and operating conditions. This improves efficiency, extends service life, and reduces operating costs.

Robust Construction for Demanding Substrates

Biogas plants must handle a wide range of substrates and materials—from coarse, long-fiber solids and solid manure to high‑dry-matter substrates and foreign objects such as stones, cow patties, or wood pieces.

BTEX pumps are designed specifically to meet these challenges and offer:

  • Large hopper opening and robust screw auger for reliable, continuous substrate intake
  • Movable compression housing for fast, easy maintenance and reduced operating costs
  • Separation zone in the compression housing for low-contaminant pumping
  • Optimized hopper design for effective removal of foreign objects
  • Large inspection openings for quick and easy removal of settled debris
  • Particularly robust components suitable for agricultural and biogas applications

These features make the pumps ideal for agricultural biogas plants, industrial pretreatment, and municipal biomass processes. Even during periods of high utilization, plant availability can be significantly increased.

Conclusion: New Pump Sizes for a High-Performance Biogas Future

With the new BTEX and BN pump sizes, SEEPEX is strategically expanding its portfolio to meet the growing demands of the biogas industry. The combination of high flow rates, robust construction, efficient premixing, and maintenance-friendly technology makes the pumps an ideal solution for operators looking to increase throughput, reduce costs, and stabilize their processes.

SEEPEX continues to support the development of the biogas sector—with reliable pumping technology, application-specific solutions, and extensive expertise.
