Flocculant dosing plays a critical role in stable thickening and clarification in mining. When the process is controlled well, fine particles form stronger flocs, solids settle more predictably, overflow clarity improves, and process water can be recovered more consistently.

When the process is unstable, reagent use often rises while thickener performance still drifts. The issue is not always the flocculant itself. It is often how the polymer is prepared, measured, pumped, diluted, and introduced into the slurry.

Flocculants are shear-sensitive because their performance depends on long polymer chains. If those chains are damaged before they reach the process, the plant may still be feeding the right volume of chemical, but not the same effective chemistry.

SEEPEX pumps support flocculant dosing by using the progressive cavity pump principle: low shear, slow rotational speed, and steady volumetric flow. This helps preserve polymer integrity and supports measured dosing integrity instead of degraded chemistry. The goal is simple: Stabilize separation, not just feed chemicals.

Dosing Integrity Is the Link Between Chemistry and Performance

Flocculant dosing is not only about moving polymer from a tank to a thickener. It is about preserving the function of the polymer so the chemistry can work as intended. Accurate dosing matters. Consistent delivery matters. Gentle pumping matters. Process response matters.

SEEPEX progressive cavity pump technology supports this through controlled volumetric flow and low-shear handling. The SEEPEX N range offers gentle conveying based on the progressive cavity pump principle, helping operators move shear-sensitive flocculants while protecting polymer integrity. With SCT, operators can also improve availability and simplify maintenance through Maintain in Place access to wear parts, helping the dosing system remain consistent over time. SSH further supports reliable operation by making seal access faster and easier.

A stable thickener or clarifier does not come from chemical feed alone. It comes from chemistry, measurement, preparation, pump selection, and process control working together. That is the difference between feeding flocculant and protecting the separation performance the plant depends on.
