What Is Lime Milk?
Lime milk, also called milk of lime or lime slurry, is a suspension of calcium hydroxide in water. It is typically produced by slaking quicklime with water or by mixing hydrated lime into water. The result is an alkaline slurry that can be dosed into a process stream to raise pH, neutralize acidity, or support chemical reactions that depend on alkaline conditions.
The important point is that lime milk behaves as a slurry, not as a dissolved chemical solution. The calcium hydroxide particles remain suspended only when the system provides the right combination of agitation, flow, and piping design. If the system allows dead zones, low velocities, or long static periods, solids can settle and later return as concentrated plugs or inconsistent slurry. That can make dosing less predictable even when the pump is running.
